## Abstract

Core A: Project Summary/Abstract: The Administrative Core (Core A) is responsible for supporting and
coordinating all CFAR activities. The foundation of the Core is active communication between the
Administration, Executive Committee, Core Directors, CFAR faculty members, UCLA and CDU Administrative
Offices and external groups interested in working with the CFAR. The clearly defined roles and well-defined
lines of communication between members of the Core will allow it to respond promptly and in a coordinated
fashion to emerging needs of the UCLA-CDU CFAR. By providing consistent management and coordinated
and timely support, the Administrative Core is able to promote AIDS-related research geared towards our
mission of stopping HIV in Los Angeles County and globally through engaging diverse researchers with
multi-disciplinary perspectives.
The specific aims of the Administrative Core are:
 1. To provide scientific leadership and governance based on strategic planning to support the
breadth of research and clinical care at UCLA and CDU.
 2. To provide HIV specific biostatistical consultation and support services to CFAR members.
 3. To provide a central source of up to date information and prompt assistance for Core Directors,
Executive Committee Members, CFAR researchers, UCLA and CDU Faculty and community
partners interested in the UCLA-CDU CFAR.
 4. To provide effective and timely evaluation of CFAR activities and report progress to UCLA and
CDU Institutional Officials, the Leadership Group, the Executive Committee, the External
Advisory Board and NIH participating Institutes and Centers.
Value Added: The Administrative Core will provide critical resources in terms of infrastructure, research Core
support training and dissemination of scientific information, which will greatly enhance the AIDS research
enterprise at UCLA and CDU. Services provided through the Administrative Core will ensure that the UCLA-
CDU CFAR has governance in place that is nimble and capable of interacting with and supporting the other 5
CFAR Cores and the SWG(s) to enhance collaborations and provide the services that CFAR members need
to advance their research programs with a focus on equity.
