Abstract

The Community Engagement Core (CEC) will advance the science of participant engagement by developing and deploying evidence-based strategies to increase the feasibility of enrolling individuals with a high cancer burden in genomic research. The CEC will utilize a multi-level, participant-centered framework to strengthen community partnerships, deliver standardized genomic education, and support recruitment and retention in genomics studies. A trained cadre of Genomic Navigators (GNs) will provide tailored education and navigation services using evidence-based resources and multi-media content, thereby enhancing genomic knowledge and reducing barriers to participation in both rural and urban settings. The CEC will incorporate advisory board guidance to address issues of trust, privacy, and bioethics, ensuring that engagement strategies are sustainable and reproducible. Through systematic evaluation and dissemination to participants, partner organizations, policymakers, and the scientific community, the CEC will generate scalable models of engagement that improve recruitment feasibility, data representativeness, and the generalizability of genomic discoveries.
