Abstract

Modified Project Summary/Abstract Section [former Intersectionality Scientific Working Group (SWG)] The UCSF Bay Area CFAR’s Intersectionality Scientific Working Group (SWG) was focused on advancing innovative methodological approaches in HIV research by fostering coordinated, research-driven collaboration across academic domains. The SWG supported scientific leadership and community building around applied research strategies, emphasizing translational approaches that addressed real-world challenges in HIV prevention and care. The group promoted interdisciplinary collaboration by facilitating regular meetings, including journal reviews, works-in-progress sessions, and scientific forums in coordination with the former Housing SWG. Structured writing groups were held to help generate peer-reviewed publications and disseminate research findings, encourage collaborative engagement, and share information on funding opportunities. The SWG also contributed to mentoring activities, including curriculum development for the CFAR Mentoring the Mentors program. Additional activities included hosting an annual research workshop and supporting CFAR-affiliated applicants responding to NIH funding opportunities. Throughout the year, the SWG maintained close collaboration with other CFAR cores such as the Bio-Behavioral Core, the PrEP cohort, the Substance Use Research Program, and the Biomarkers of Behavior Program. This was the final year of operation for the Intersectionality SWG, which will be consolidated (along with the Housing SWG) into a new Implementation Science Scientific Working Group in the upcoming project year.
