4/12/23 Project Summary The South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnosc Laboratory (SD ADRDL) will serve as a Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) core laboratory for the Veterinary Laboratory Invesgaon and Response Network (Vet-LIRN). The main aim of this project is to perform WGS on isolates obtained from working with 5 partner source labs: North Carolina State University Center for Veterinary Medicine, Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnosc Laboratory, Minnesota Veterinary Diagnosc Laboratory, Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnosc Laboratory, and Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnosc Laboratory. These partners will culture Salmonella enterica, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, and other relevant organisms from veterinary matrices. Once sent to the SD ADRDL, identy will be verified via MALDI-TOF before extracng genomic DNA and performing WGS. Sequence will be uploaded to NCBI bioprojects designated by Vet-LIRN Program Office. Vet-LIRN has been tasked with developing AST and WGS assays that will allow for increased understanding of anmicrobial resistance within veterinary samples. This knowledge will be used to develop evidence-based intervenons that have demonstrated reducons in resistance. 5U18FD006558 Page 1 of 1
