Abstract

SUMMARY – HISTOLOGY, IMAGING, AND ANALYSIS MODULE The Histology, Imaging, and Analysis (HIA) module gives supported faculty and their laboratory members access to facilities, services, training, and expertise in sample preparation and labeling, imaging, and image analysis. The module provides resources for a single workflow, from tissue sample preparation to generating numerical data from high-quality images. Included in the module are equipment and technical expertise for histologic processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and labeling, as well as microscopic techniques including brightfield, darkfield, polarized light, fluorescence, phase contrast, and DIC microscopy, as well as live cell microscopy. Qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques are provided with an emphasis on imaging ethics and scientific integrity. This essential equipment and support facilitate research for numerous NEI-funded projects, and for new faculty to acquire preliminary data for R01 grant applications.
