Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY- RESEARCH EDUCATION CORE The Research Education Core of the Howard-Hopkins Comprehensive Alliance in cancer Research, Education, and Equity (H2CAREE) aims to strengthen the cancer research education program at Howard University (HU), and diversify the cancer research workforce. Levergaing the longstanding collaboration between the two institutions, H2CAREE plans to develope joint programs between HU and Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The core’s goals include: 1. Establishing a joint Ph.D. program in Medical Physics, 2. Creating a “School2Lab” initiative for underrepresented STEMM scholars, and 3. Offering a twelve-week course on artificial intelligence and machine learning in cancer research. The goals of the these effort are to address racial disparities in cancer and the underrepresentation of African Americans in the cancer research and clinical workforce.
