Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT - COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT The St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center (SJCCC) self-defined Catchment Area (CA) includes a 180-mile radius around Memphis, Tennessee, where SJCCC is located, and a 100-mile radius around each of eight Affiliates in Charlotte, North Carolina; Baton Rouge and Shreveport, Louisiana; Huntsville, Alabama; Johnson City, Tennessee; Peoria, Illinois; Springfield, Missouri; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Within the CA, patients are accepted regardless of eligibility for open interventional treatment trials. Outside the CA, any patient who qualifies for open trials may be treated at SJCCC. SJCCC Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) spans the CA, the United States (US), and globally. As SJCCC is the only NCI-Designated Cancer Center focused solely on pediatric cancer, its resources, infrastructure, and mission uniquely enable it to significantly affect the CA, US, and global pediatric cancer care and outcomes. The SJCCC COE is led by Co-Associate Directors Heather Brandt, PhD and Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, MD who direct overall COE efforts and operationalize a unified orientation and vision for COE. Functionally, Brandt focuses on the CA and national efforts and RodriguezGalindo on global activities and programs. Building on the 2022-2027 SJCCC Strategic Plan, the COE's Aims are focused on the SJCCC's distinctive ability to reduce the burden of pediatric cancers in the CA, US, and globally. COE is committed to three communities of children it serves (i.e. children with cancer, children who have survived cancer, and all children in the CA) and has convened and supported Community Advisory Boards representing these priority populations. COE addresses clinical and research needs by facilitating community education on cancer prevention behaviors among children and facilitates thoughtful and responsive scientific research, community engagement and advocacy, and access to care. Additional efforts focusing on clinical trials educ
