## Abstract

The Cellular and Genetic Engineering Core (CGEC) will provide molecular cloning and viral vector production
services to COBRE research program leaders and non-COBRE members. The CGEC will consult with potential
users to determine the best molecular tools to be used in their projects and will assist the user in deciding what
are the necessary controls for their experiments. The CGEC is capable of creating customized gene expression
plasmids that can be packaged into Adeno-associated virus (AAV), Retrovirus, or Lentivirus. In addition to
creating plasmids to ectopically express cDNAs, CGEC is capable of creating customized cells capable of BioID,
NanoBRET, and NanoBIT. All plasmids created by CGEC will be deposited with Addgene once the plasmid has
been used in a publication. This will allow for easy dissemination to the broader scientific community. Moreover,
the CGEC can create knock-out and knock-in cell lines using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. The Core is capable of
creating these reagents for use in vitro and in vivo. The CGEC will provide services to investigators studying
many different diseases.
