Abstract

The overall scientific goal of this P01 is to understand how the diverse landscape of proviruses and HIVexpressing cells in vivo differ in their frequency, survival/clearance, relationship to immune responses, contribution to immune activation, cellular gene expression, tissue specific differences, contribution to rebound, and susceptibility to therapies aimed at HIV cure. To help implement this scientific goal, an Administrative Core is needed to serve as a unifying center and provide leadership, management, and organization. Therefore, we will establish an Administrative Core that will serve and have representatives from all 3 component projects and the Bioinformatics Core. This Administrative Core will have three main branches corresponding to the three main aims: Administration, Resource Allocation, and Monitoring. Within the Administrative Branch, the Project Coordinator will organize meetings of each project/core and the entire P01 in order to facilitate scientific crosstalk and promote the open sharing of ideas. The Resources Branch will have three main subdivisions (Clinical, Financial, and Data Resources) that will manage the sharing and allocation of clinical samples, financial resources, and data across all of the projects and cores. The Monitoring Branch will be comprised of an Executive Committee (composed of the leaders of each project/core) and an external Scientific Advisory Board (containing independent investigators who are not involved in the P01). These two groups will work together to track and evaluate progress, ensure accountability, and identify problems and opportunities. With input from the independent Scientific Advisory Board, the Executive Committee will be empowered to respond to new challenges or opportunities and reallocate resources in order to implement the overall goals of the P01.
