## Abstract

REVISED ABSTRACT:

Health Disparities Engagement Core: Project Summary – 2P30AG066444-06 (5159)
Globally, the projected prevalence of Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) requires healthcare systems and biomedical research programs to consider new ways of prevention, screening, and treatment. The largest disease burden occurs in those in populations at high risk for dementia who have less than a college education, have comorbid health conditions, and those who have limited access to healthcare due to proximity. To address this concern, the Knight ADRC established the Health Disparities Engagement (HDE) Core in 2020. The HDE Core seeks to establish sustainable partnerships internal and external to the Knight ADRC to increase generalizability of ADRD research. Using population- and patient-engaged research processes, the Core will examine factors, such as comorbid health conditions, in an effort to increase recruitment, enrollment, and retention in ADRD research studies. The main objective of the HDE Core is to provide populations at high risk for dementia the opportunity to participate in and engage with ADRD research. The HDE Core supports an ADRD research registry (R24 AG074915), which will be expanded in the next grant cycle, to serve as a referral source for the Knight ADRC and affiliated studies. The Core also creates education and training opportunities for investigators and the local area on engaging populations at high risk for dementia in ADRD. Under this funding, we will expand our efforts to provide consultations to study teams on the engaging the local area to increase generalizability of research findings and advance ADRD research.
