Abstract The Information Dissemination Core of The Scripps Research Institute Alcohol Research Center (TSRI-ARC) will disseminate scientific research findings made by ARC labs to the public through educational and outreach efforts and will particularly target NIAAA-identified “Special Populations” (youth under age 21, college-age young adults, senior citizens, women, and ethnic and racial minorities) that have characteristics that make them more susceptible to the negative consequences of alcohol use. Importantly, these populations also are at high risk for stress, the primary focus of TSRI-ARC. Core Specific Aims are the 1) Development of curricula targeted to high-risk populations, 2) Expansion of internships targeted to high-risk populations, and 3) Outreach through enhanced social media and parent education. The goals of these aims are to to teach high- risk populations and those who interact with them how the brain is affected by alcohol, the progression of these effects with continued use, and the concept of the “dark side” of addiction using specific examples from TSRI- ARC laboratories, to directly interact with the community through laboratory tours and a continuation and expansion of our internship program, and to make the TSRI-ARC website more accessible to the public and to use it for communication between TSRI-ARC PIs as well as a critical resource for each of our curriculum efforts.
