## Abstract

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is amending the animal drug regulations to exclude from generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status the use of propylene glycol (PG) in or on cat food. This final action is based on FDA's review of currently available information which has raised significant questions about the safety of this use. Semimoist pet foods containing PG were not in existence when the GRAS status of PG for use in animal feeds was established, thus the agency's prior GRAS determination does not apply to the newly intended uses of PG.
