Abstract

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is amending the food additive regulations to provide for the safe use of aspartame as a general purpose sweetener. This action is in response to a petition by the NutraSweet Co., and will simplify the existing regulation by replacing most of the 23 currently listed uses of aspartame with a single use category for food.
