Abstract
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is amending the food additive regulations to provide for the safe use of a mixture of peroxyacetic acid, acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and 1- hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP) to reduce the microbial load in water used to wash certain fruits and vegetables. Elsewhere in this issue of the Federal Register, FDA is publishing a document that provides for the safe use of a mixture of peroxyacetic acid, acetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide to reduce the microbial load in water used to wash certain fruits and vegetables. This action is in response to a petition filed by Ecolab Inc.
