## Abstract

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is amending the food additive regulations to provide for the safe use of a mixture of peroxyacetic acid, acetic acid, and hydrogen peroxide to reduce the microbial load in water used to wash certain fruits and vegetables. Elsewhere in this issue of the Federal Register, FDA is also publishing a document that provides for the safe use of a mixture of peroxyacetic acid, acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1- diphosphonic acid (HEDP) to reduce the microbial load in water used to wash certain fruits and vegetables. This action is in response to a petition filed by Ecolab Inc.
