Abstract

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (Board), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) (collectively, the Agencies) are issuing interim guidelines (the Guidelines) establishing Year 2000 safety and soundness standards for insured depository institutions pursuant to section 39 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act (FDI Act). Under the auspices of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC), the Agencies have previously issued eight guidance papers on important aspects of Year 2000 readiness. The Guidelines complement these eight guidance papers by establishing minimum safety and soundness standards for achieving Year 2000 readiness.
