Abstract
On June 18, 1997, the Federal Trade Commission (``Commission'') published a Federal Register Notice seeking public comment on proposed changes to the Guides for the Watch Industry (``Watch Guides'' or ``Guides'') and on the continuing need for the Guides. The Commission has now completed its review and has decided to rescind the Guides. The Commission has concluded that the Guides are no longer needed to resolve uncertainty among businesses over what claims are likely to be considered deceptive, and that in most instances, international standards provide sufficient guidance to industry regarding watch markings and claims.
