Abstract

We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), have determined threatened status according to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended, for Holocarpha macradenia (Santa Cruz tarplant). Holocarpha macradenia is an aromatic annual herb that is currently known from coastal grasslands and prairies in Contra Costa, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties, California. It is threatened by alteration and destruction of habitat due to historic and ongoing urban and commercial development, historic habitat alteration due to grazing, limited success of seed transplant populations, and competition from nonnative plants.
