## Abstract

The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) is approving a proposed amendment to the Montana regulatory program (hereinafter, the "Montana program") under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA). Montana proposed revisions to, and additions of statutes about, the notice requirements for alternate reclamation plans; the use of introduced species on lands mined, disturbed, or redisturbed after May 2, 1978, and reseeded prior to January 1, 1984; subsidence; a definition of operator for uranium mining; and other editorial revisions. Montana revised its program to be consistent with SMCRA, provide additional safeguards, clarify ambiguities, and improve operational efficiency.
