Employee was installing a roof bolt from a Joy 14-9 miner, in 6 North Parallel. The bolt would not go up by hand so he used the bolter chuck to push the bolt up. His left hand was on the bolt and the right hand ran the controls. While pushing the bolt up, the bolt caught something and bent the bolt pinching his left thumb between the bolt and the jack.
