Employee and another co-worker were making a belt splice and as the two worked toward each other he was struck above the eye with a hammer. Cause of this injury was lack of communication and safety awareness. Complaince with rules/regs was not a factor, protective equip not a factor, mining equip/system not a factor and miner proficiency a factor.
