Employee was struck by a flying object while operating a continuous miner. Apparently a 5mm piece of coal/rock had embedded in his cheek. He was scheduled to see a surgeon on 7/19/10. The surgeon referred him to the hospital on 7/20/10 for surgery. The surgeon became unavailable until late in the day. The employee could have worked but missed awaiting the surgeons availability.
