Valve was open approx 40 sec. When burner would not light, the operator asked the utility to prepare the manual gas torch. Approximately 12 min later, at 8:19, a gas torch was used to light the kiln burner. After it was lit, the utility heard a boom. The area was inspected, the Preheat coal mill was found with the inlet duct to the exhauster fan damaged at the coupling.
