Worker had his right thumb smashed after unbolting a vertical pipe, approximately 6"" in diameter by 4' in length. The employee was holding the pipe while another unbolted it. He lost control of the pipe after the last nut was unbolted and his thumb was caught between the pipe and the railing on the catwalk.
