The MT was using a 3/4"" pneumatic impact wrench to drive a 1-1/2"" socket for removal of flange bolts when the socket shattered. The MT could not locate a rated socket so made the decision to use a socket designed for hand use, resulting in the failure. The employee received and small laceration to EE's upper lip requiring 2 stitches.
