Upon inspection of the South Portal Material Hoist cable before dropping a heavy piece of equipment a spot was found with a slight kink in the rope. The car was removed from service, the rope shortened, the hoist tested, and placed back into service. MSHA was notified via the hotline and in person at the mine at the time the spot was found.
