Employee removed access cover where sand is lifted using a vertical elevator, attempted to use a piece of rebar to poke at what the employee described as ""wet sand"" in an attempt to unclog the sand and allow it to pass through to the vertical elevator. While poking at the sand, the rebar contacted a section of the vertical elevator which casued the employee's hand to be pinched.
