During an examination of the Metz Elevator it was found that the bottom 60 feet of the counterweight rails had deformed from heat expansion. The elevator was immediately taken out of service until the counterweight rails could be replaced, before any damage was done to the counterweight or the ropes. No problems with equipment or compliance issues, training or PPE.
