Abstract
The Department of the Treasury, on behalf of the Student Loan Marketing Association, is publishing final regulations to govern Sallie Mae book-entry securities. This action is being taken in conjunction with similar amendments being made by the Department of the Treasury to the regulations governing book-entry Treasury securities, and by other government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) for GSE securities that are maintained on the book-entry system operated by the Federal Reserve Banks. The rules incorporate recent and significant changes in commercial law addressing the holding of securities in book-entry form through financial intermediaries.
