## Abstract

This document amends the Customs Regulations to provide for procedures regarding the detention of merchandise that is undergoing extended Customs examination. The changes promulgated accurately reflect amendments to the underlying statutory authority, enacted as part of the Customs modernization portion of the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act. The regulations provide importers with an accelerated method to receive administrative or judicial review of any decision to exclude merchandise from the United States. Certain other conforming amendments are also made.
