Abstract

The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) finalizes part 402 chapter IV of title 7 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The intended effect of this rule is to provide for a catastrophic risk protection plan of insurance. This coverage is the lowest level required to be purchased by a producer to be eligible for certain other agricultural farm program benefits. The producer may execute a waiver of any eligibility for emergency crop loss assistance in connection with the crop rather than obtain insurance coverage to be eligible for certain other agricultural farm program benefits. This action is needed to comply with statutory mandates of the Federal Crop Insurance Act (Act), as amended by the Federal Crop Insurance Reform Act of 1994 (Reform Act) and the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996 (1996 Act).
