TL-CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTOA COROLLA ---  RECALL CAME AFTER ACCIDENT WITH VEHICLE --- CONTACT WAS INJURED IN AUTO ACCIDENT AUGUST 15, 2017 WHEN AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND HIT CONTACT IN THE FACE.... VEHICLE RAN INTO LARGER SIZED TRUCK... VEHICLE WAS TOTALED..... CONTACT FILED POLICE REPORT AT SITE OF ACCIDENT... VEHICLE AIRBAGS HAD BEEN RECALLED PRIOR TO ACCIDENT..... ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON RESIDENTIAL STREET...    MAY 23,2016   MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBERG0P  NHTSA RECALL NUMBER16V340  RECALL STATUSRECALL INCOMPLETE  SUMMARYTHE SUBJECT VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATORS PRODUCED BY TAKATA. ACCORDING TO TAKATA, THE PROPELLANT IN THESE INFLATORS MAY DEGRADE AFTER PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO HIGH ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY AND FLUCTUATING HIGH TEMPERATURES. DEGRADED PROPELLANT CAN CAUSE INFLATOR RUPTURE DURING AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT.     SAFETY RISKIN THE EVENT OF AN INFLATOR RUPTURE, METAL FRAGMENTS COULD PASS THROUGH THE AIRBAG CUSHION MATERIAL, STRIKING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS, AND RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.    REMEDYTHE REMEDY WILL CONSIST OF THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AIRBAG INFLATOR OR THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, DEPENDING ON THE VEHICLE MODEL.
