Narrative

The contact called inquiring about a Law Enforcement vehicle (2018 RAM 2500). November 2020, vehicle shut down while traveling up a road. “Lost all PCM communication.” Instrument cluster was on, but vehicle would not start, multiple warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. Towed vehicle to Flower Motors (RAM) in Montrose, CO where it was diagnosed with needing a PCM replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however it continued to experience the same failure. July 2021 while the same Law Enforcement Officer was traveling at 30 mph in a 35-mph zone into a sharp right turn, the vehicle "lost all the PCM communication". The Law Enforcement Officer could not stop, due to no brakes and had a difficult time turning the vehicle. The Law Enforcement vehicle crossed the road into the oncoming lane of traffic and off the shoulder into Sagebrush. The Law Enforcement Officer was able to steer to the right and drove back onto the road and across both lanes of traffic, exiting off the road surface and into more Sagebrush. The Law Enforcement vehicle finally came to a stop. Multiple warning lights illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The Law Enforcement Officer was not injured nor sought medical attention. No police report was filed. The Law Enforcement vehicle was not drivable and had to be towed Flower Motors (RAM) in Montrose, CO where it was diagnosed with needing the PCM replaced for a second time.
