A general west-northwest to west motion is expected through\ntonight with the center of Bertha moving across our offshore gulf\nwaters this evening into Wednesday morning. The storm will move\nfurther west and out of the local area during the day on Wednesday.\nPrimary impacts from Bertha remain focused near the coastline and over\nthe Gulf waters.\n\nDangerous surf and beach conditions are expected. A high risk of\ndeadly rip currents is in effect through much of the week. A High Surf\nWarning remains in effect due to surf building to 8 to 11 feet along\nthe Gulf beaches, reaching peak heights late tonight into early\nWednesday morning. These large breaking waves will result in minor\nbeach erosion, along with flooding of vulnerable areas of the west end\nof Dauphin Island and the Ft. Pickens area of Gulf Islands National\nSeashore.\n\nA Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for the Alabama coast and\ncoastal Escambia County, Florida for inundation of 1 to 3 feet during\nhigh tide Wednesday morning and possibly again Thursday morning.\n\nDue to the sheared nature of the storm, most of the heavy rainfall\nwill remain well south across the open Gulf. However, locally heavy\nrainfall cannot be ruled out in any rainbands that approach the coast.\n\nPOTENTIAL IMPACTS\n-----------------\n\n* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:\nDangerous surf and beach conditions are expected. A high risk of deadly\nrip currents continues through much of the week. Surf builds to 8-11 feet\ntonight through Wednesday.\n\n* SURGE:\nProtect against locally hazardous surge having possible limited\nimpacts across coastal Alabama and coastal Florida. Potential impacts\nin this area include:\n- Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly along\nimmediate shorelines and in low-lying spots, or in areas\nfarther inland near where higher surge waters move ashore.\n- Sections of near-shore roads and parking lots become overspread\nwith surge water. Driving conditions dangerous in places where\nsurge water covers the road.\n- Moderate beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainly\nin usually vulnerable locations. Strong rip currents.\n- Minor to locally moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks,\nand piers. A few small craft broken away from moorings.\n\nElsewhere across portions of southwest Alabama...northwest\nFlorida...south central Alabama...and inland southeast Mississippi.,\nlittle to no impact is anticipated.\n\n* WIND:\nPrepare for hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across the\nimmediate coastal areas of Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle.\nPotential impacts in this area include:\n- Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored\nmobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.\n- Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or\nuprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are\nshallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over.\n- A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban\nor heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on\nbridges and other elevated roadways.\n- Scattered power and communications outages.\n\nElsewhere across portions of southwest Alabama...northwest\nFlorida...south central Alabama...and inland southeast Mississippi.,\nlittle to no impact is anticipated.\n\n* FLOODING RAIN:\nProtect against locally hazardous rainfall flooding having possible\nlimited impacts across coastal Alabama and the western Florida\nPanhandle. Potential impacts include:\n- Localized rainfall flooding may prompt a few evacuations.\n- Rivers and tributaries may quickly rise with swifter currents.\nSmall streams, creeks, canals, and ditches may become swollen\nand overflow in spots.\n- Flood waters can enter a few structures, especially in usually\nvulnerable spots. A few places where rapid ponding of water\noccurs at underpasses, low-lying spots, and poor drainage\nareas. Several storm drains and retention ponds become\nnear-full and begin to overflow. Some brief road and bridge\nclosures.\n\nElsewhere across portions of southwest Alabama...northwest\nFlorida...south central Alabama...and inland southeast Mississippi.,\nlittle to no impact is anticipated.\n\nPRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS\n----------------------------------\n\n* EVACUATIONS:\nFollow the advice of local officials.\n\n* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:\nNow is the time to complete preparations in accordance with your\nemergency plan.\n\nIf you are a visitor, be sure to know the name of the city or town in\nwhich you are staying and the name of the county in which it resides.\nListen for these locations in local news updates.
