Up to 1 foot of inundation is\npossible for sound-side flooding as strong N'rly winds remain\nin place today. For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous rip\ncurrents and large breaking waves expected in the surf zone.\n\n* WHERE...Ocracoke Island.\n\n* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Warning, until 11 AM EDT\nSaturday. For the Beach Hazards Statement, until 8 PM EDT this\nevening.\n\n* IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Portions of Highway 12\nremain closed between Pony Pens and the ferry dock. Low lying\nproperty including homes, businesses, and some critical\ninfrastructure will be inundated. Rip currents can sweep even\nthe best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Dangerous\nshore break can throw a swimmer or surfer head first into the\nbottom causing neck and back injuries.\n\n* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The next high tide is around 7:15 PM. The\nmost likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple\nhours either side of low tide, which will occur around 1:15 PM\nFriday.\n\n## Instructions\nTake the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If\ntravel is required, do not drive around barricades or through\nwater of unknown depth.\n\nLife-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain\ncalm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,\nfloat or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to\nescape, face the shore and call or wave for help.\n\nShore break occurs when waves break directly on the beach. It is\nextremely important to protect your head and neck whenever you\nare in breaking waves by keeping your hands in front of you at\nall times."}
