For the Beach Hazards\nStatement, dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves\nexpected in the surf zone.\n\n* WHERE...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, areas adjacent to the\nSouthern Pamlico Sound and adjacent tidal creeks. This would\ninclude areas extending from Cedar Island to Merrimon\nincluding South River. Areas adjacent to Core Sound could\npossibly see some elevated water levels as well impacting\nareas from Marshallberg to Atlantic. For the Beach Hazards\nStatement, beaches north of Cape Lookout.\n\n* WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.\n\n* IMPACTS...Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level\nis possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal\nwaterways resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some\nroads and low lying property including parking lots, parks,\nlawns, and homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience\nshallow flooding. Rip currents can sweep even the best\nswimmers away from shore into deeper water. Dangerous shore\nbreak can throw a swimmer or surfer head first into the bottom\ncausing neck and back injuries.\n\n* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Ocean-side high tide is around 7:20 PM.\nThe most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a\ncouple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around\n1:15 PM Friday.\n\n## Instructions\nIf travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be\nclosed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of\nunknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone\nproperty.\n\nLife-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain\ncalm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,\nfloat or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to\nescape, face the shore and call or wave for help.\n\nShore break occurs when waves break directly on the beach. It is\nextremely important to protect your head and neck whenever you\nare in breaking waves by keeping your hands in front of you at\nall times."}
