EPA is approving a one-year extension of the attainment date for the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB), Alaska nonattainment area for carbon monoxide (CO). FNSB failed to attain the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for CO by the applicable attainment date of December 31, 2000. This action is based on EPA's evaluation of air quality monitoring data and the extension request submitted by the Commissioner, Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) on March 29, 2001, in accordance with section 186(a)(4) of the Clean Air Act (CAA).
