This regulation establishes an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of the imazamox on all food commodities when applied/used as a herbicide. The Interregional Research Project Number 4 (IR-4) submitted a petition to EPA under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended by the Food Quality Protection Act of 1996, requesting an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance. After review of the available data, EPA determined that the toxicological profile for imazamox supports an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance; no adverse effects were observed in the submitted toxicological studies regardless of the route of exposure. Since this regulation eliminates the need to establish maximum permissible levels for residues of imazamox, the Agency is also deleting 40 CFR 180.508, which includes previously established maximum permissible levels for residues of imazamox.
