Abstract

Project Summary for State of Rhode Island PAR-20-105 Laboratory Flexible Funding Model (LFFM) (U19) Application. Discipline A: Microbiology, Track 5: Microbiology Capability/Capacity Development Project Summary The Rhode Island State Health Laboratories (RISHL) will expand its scope of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited food testing by developing the method capability to test for Cyclospora in human food product and environmental samples according to FDA BAM method 19b. The RISHL will rely on the support of this project to acquire the equipment and supplies including a homogenizer, platform rocker, swinging bucket rotor and buckets with inserts for conical tubes, and other equipment an necessary to prepare samples for analysis by FDA BAM method 19b: Molecular Detection of Cyclospora cayetanensis in Fresh Produce Using Real-Time PCR. Support from this project will also be used to acquire Primer and Probes for two targets (Cyclospora and IAC), to train personnel on FDA BAM method 19b and to develop Standard Operating Procedures for the laboratory. The RISHL will participate successfully in a proficiency study offered by a suitable proficiency provider or in a laboratory developed exercise to demonstrate competency. 1
