Abstract

Project Summary/Abstract This proposal is for an administrative supplement for the five-year Integrative Health Equity and Applied Research (IHEAR) summer research training program. The overarching goal of the IHEAR training program is to build the capacity and diversity of the integrative medicine research workforce to advance health equity. Through the current administrative supplement, we propose formally adding the following goal to the IHEAR program: to support underrepresented minority learner success through multilevel mentoring support designed to foster science identity. Towards this goal, we propose strengthening mentorship for diverse IHEAR fellows by: (1) developing and disseminating tools to support faculty-fellow mentoring dyads in IHEAR; (2) strengthening peer and near-peer support in the IHEAR program; and (3) building non-dyadic mentoring structures for IHEAR fellows.
