My son, Marine LCpl Ryan McCoy, was driving on I95 in Virginia back to Camp Lejeun when he heard a âpopâ sound. Assuming something was wrong, he pulled over to the breakdown lane. The vehicle began to smoke and the temperature gauge shot up to the hottest it could register. At that time, he turned off the vehicle and exited. He noticed the front of the vehicles so in flames and began to run away from the vehicle and saw the vehicle violently explode. He called 911. Stare Trooper Joseph Worley arrived and he called a tow truck. When the fire went out, the trooper left without checking to see if Ryan was okay or had a ride anywhere. The tow truck dropped Ryan at the nearest rest stop and the tow truck took the vehicle to Interstate Garage.
