I was rear-ended during a traffic slowdown in freeway, while driving my 2014 BMW 328i sedan. Due to the collision, my vehicleâs safety system got invoked, which made the gear automatically go into neutral and the flashers turned on. However, my seatbelt (driver, left-front seat) unbuckled automatically. This caused me to hit the steering wheel during the accident. I didnât suffer major injury as I had slowed down to less than 20 mph, while the vehicle hit me in the rear (which had also slowed, though didnât stop on time/didnât have the distance, and hence the collision). After the collision, when I checked, the socket from which the seatbelt is pulled had got loose, and the belt had a double fold in the buckle, and so it got stuck. It didnât rollback to its place.
