Narrative

I am an eye doctor. I operated on a young woman who had applied "steering wheel bling" to her car's steering wheel. This product is a hard metal plates with fake diamonds and adhesive on the back. Turns out, the center part of the steering wheel was the airbag cover, and when the airbag deployed during a minor accident, the product was ejected at her face at high speed by the airbag cover opening. The edge of the metal sliced through her eye and the product lodged in the back of her eye socket. I removed the product from what was left of her eye. She lost all vision in that eye, despite the surgery. Amazon continues to sell items such as this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08ZSWXW8C/?th=1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YHTM1SH/ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YHY68M5/ By the way, this was reported to the CPSC report number 20220717-76144-2147354957 but they rejected it and told me to contact NHTSA. Please do not let this safety issue get stuck between agencies.
