Narrative

The contact owned a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low turbo boost and the reduced engine power warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he pulled over into a gas station to turn off the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the warning lights were no longer illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that the VIN was not under a recall. The contact then stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH with a 16-foot trailer attached, there was burning rubber and plastic odor before flames were seen coming from underneath the vehicle. After the contact and his family exited the vehicle and moved away, there were flames seen coming from the driver and front passenger wheel wells and underneath the hood. No warning lights were illuminated. There were only minor scratches and no medical attention was required. The police were on the scene and the fire department extinguished the flames. A report was only filed with the fire department. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact's insurance sent an investigator and the vehicle was deemed totaled. The contact was informed that they would be sending another investigator to confirm the cause of the fire. The approximate failure mileage was 5,500.
