The contact received recall notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V162000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed, she noticed through the driverâs side rearview mirror a dark cloud of smoke at the rear of the vehicle when she then veered the vehicle off the road as the vehicle started to inflame. The contactâs husband sustained an injury to his right hand that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The fire department was notified, and the fire was extinguished. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The origin of the fire had yet to be determined. Additionally, the contact stated that prior to the failure, the check engine warning light had been illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an undisclosed code was detected, and the service brakes were replaced. The contact was then advised by the mechanic to drive the vehicle 800 miles for the undisclosed code to clear. The vehicle was presumed to be repaired. The dealer nor the manufacturer had not yet been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.
