Narrative

The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed and released. The contact then depressed the brake pedal; however, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately, and the transmission failed to shift into neutral (N). The vehicle coasted to the side of the roadway and was able to come to a complete stop. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that they would not be able to duplicate the failure without a check engine warning light illuminated. The dealer advised the contact to drive the vehicle until the check engine warning light illuminates to diagnose the vehicle. The contact stated that the following week, the failure recurred while making a left turn into the gas station. The vehicle experienced unintended acceleration at 42 MPH, and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle immediately. The "Sudden Acceleration, Sudden Braking" message was displayed. The vehicle crashed into a gas station, injuring the cashier and a customer. One of the injured people received medical attention. The contact did not sustain any injuries, but medical attention was received. No air bags were deployed upon impact. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the police department, where a police investigator accessed the EDR. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer.
