The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while the [XXX] son was seated in the rear driver's side middle row seat, the seat belt buckle had malfunctioned and did not unlatch. While attempting to release the child, the seat belt straps continued to retract and tighten, causing distress to the child. The contact retrieved a knife and had to cut the seat belt straps to free the child. During the incident, the child sustained bruising to the abdomen. The medical treatment was required. The cause of the failure has not yet been determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 56,000.
