Narrative

The contact owned a 1994 Ford Bronco. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked on the street, the vehicle caught on fire. A neighbor who was sitting inside his own vehicle parked across the street from where the contact's vehicle was parked, noticed flames coming from under the hood on the driver's side of the vehicle. The neighbor called the Fire Department and then notified the contact of the fire. The contact was at work and arrived at the scene however, the front of the vehicle was already engulfed in flames and the Fire Department had extinguished the fire. The Police also arrived at the scene; however, the contact was unaware if a Police report was filed. The contact had not experienced a failure with the vehicle prior to the fire. The Police and contact suspected that the fire was set intentionally; however, upon further investigation, the contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) which the contact linked to the fire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle remained at the residence after the fire. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and requested pictures of the damages. The manufacturer informed the contact that since the fire damaged the front of the vehicle, it was impossible to investigate to determine what had caused the fire. The contact notified the Insurance company; However, the vehicle only had liability coverage. The failure mileage was unknown.
