Narrative

1986 MITSUBISHI MIGHTY MAX HAD A RECALL FOR THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. DURING THE APPARENT PART RECALL CLAIM, IT WAS SPECIFIED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD PART WAS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF DANGER OF FIRE AND OR EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE ORIGINAL RECALL CLAIM WAS FOR A DEFECTIVE CASTING MATERIAL OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS FROM THE MANUFACTURER WHICH WOULD DEVELOP LARGE CRACK OPENINGS, IN TURN WOULD BE RELEASING LARGE AMOUNTS OF CARBON MONOXIDE INTO ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND PASSENGER COMPARTMENTS OR CHANCE OF FIRE. AFTER A FIRE THAT WAS PURELY CAUSED BY EXTENSIVE HEAT BEING RELEASED THROUGH A LARGE CRACK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, I HAVE COME TO A CONCLUSION WITH A MECHANIC THAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL TO REPLACE THE EXHAUST HEADER WAS EITHER NOT DONE AND RECALL STICKER WAS PLACED UNDER HOOD ANYWAY TO LOOK LIKE IT WAS DONE, OR THE RECALL PART WAS REPLACED WITH AN IDENTICAL PART THAT CONTAINED THE SAME CONTAMINATED CASTING MATERIAL USED IN THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE RECALL SEEMS TO BE NO LONGER POSTED ON THE RECALL LISTING, YET I HAVE THE ORIGINAL RECALL STICKER FOR THIS DEFECT STILL POSTED ON MY VEHICLE. AN OBVIOUS COVER-UP TO BUY TIME PERHAPS BY REPLACING A DEFECT WITH THE SAME POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. THIS RECALL, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, STATED THAT THIS WAS TO BE FIXED, AS IN PERMANENTLY FIXED, BECAUSE OF THE DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IT CAUSED. THE PART IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION AND HAS A VISUAL CRACK WRAPPING AROUND THE #1 AND #2 EXHAUST TUBES WITH A 1/
