An employee was troubleshooting a solid handling transfer system. He opened an observation port and was attempting to brush away some material from the machine's solid screw feeder when his left hand was caught in the feeder, partially amputating his ring and pinky fingers to the first knuckle. The machine was unguarded at the time of the incident.
